I write from the rolling fields of corn, far away in the lonely land of Iowa... Actually, forget the rolling plains bit. It's more like very flat fields of corn fields and flat and brown roads. The roads are hideous! I've been told I'm a very opinionated person so take this next bit about the roads with a grain of salt. (I mean I think I'm right of course, but I added the disclaimer just on the off chance you like ugly brown roads for some strange reason.) The roads are either brown concrete or brown gravel. The concrete is inherently unappealing to look at and by nature looks dirty and uncared for. Also, it's the same color as the dirt in the fields so there is no way to see a contrast between the two. Asphalt is better. However, you can at least drive on the concrete roads. Everything I said about concrete roads applies to gravel roads and you can't drive on them. When you do, a bunch of dust is kicked up into the air. The dust makes it difficult to see, gets caked on the entire vehicle, and is impossible to get off. It's so bad that Grandma and Grandpa will ignore the GPS rather than go on a gravel road. I mean if that doesn't show you the horror of Iowa roads, I don't know what will.
`Now Iowa itself, minus the roads of course, is beautiful. Volga river has tons of nice trails and a small lake. The lake was flat the anytime we paddled boarded. We watched the sun set on the lake a couple times.
The trials are all equestrian trails and we saw about five horses. There's a lot of horse doodoo all over them but otherwise they're excellent. Some the signs are pretty hilarious.

Camping has its difficulties. Take the food situation for example. We're running through the woods and catching prey with our bare hands... Here's what we managed to find:
There's really no difference between home cooked meals and RV cooked meals. Some of the sparkle time food has been especially good. The baked brie in the first picture was delicious. We also had this super good blackberry jalapeño chutney with it. I'll stop before I make you hungry and more jealous than you already are.
These sparkle times are quite enjoyable. I'm pleased to report that I'm winning at cards. The tide has turned since last time. I personally think my success is due to natural ability. It could potentially be luck.
We're on the way to Wisconsin right know. I hope onto asphalt roads. I'll be writing the blog post for the next site too, so I'll see you later.
Maudie out:)
