Charlestown State Park, Indiana

 9/14/2023 to 9/21/2023

Charlestown State Park was our 4th and last site in Indiana. It had multiple camping loops and, as usual, was jam packed on the weekend and pretty deserted during the week. It seemed to be a popular destination for camping clubs, with lots of different groups camped closed together sharing meals and campfires. It's the first time we have seen so much of that. Might be because the park is relatively close to lots of big cities, like Louisville and Cincinnati, where organized camping clubs are popular.  Everyone was friendly and stopped to talk to us about Texas.

The park covers a wide area and we drove relatively long distances to get to all the trails, which we really enjoyed. We hiked a different one every day. From one trail we could see the Ohio River from the cliffs above.

The trails were mostly labeled "rugged", but that just meant ups and downs with roots and rocks.

We saw some waterfalls, but many more places where waterfalls would have existed after about 10 inches of rain.

The hike to Rose Island was very interesting. I haven't figured out how to do links very efficiently, but if you double click below, you get a chance (I think) to be redirected to an article explaining all about it. We enjoyed walking through the ruins and reading all about the history.

Our batteries issues appear to under control, or at least dormant for now. This issue of the week was our front air conditioner. It started making a loud noise, so it's out of commission for now. Our plan so far is to be thankful it's not very hot.

We had a full hookup, so were able to use our washer for laundry. I had planned to finish the quilt I was working on, but my machine started skipping stitches so badly, I couldn't make much progress. Not sure how I'll be able to get that fixed, but will try to figure it out. We also made a trip into Louisville to Dick's Sporting Goods (for a paddle board paddle) and to Trader Joe's and Costco.
