Mounds SRA, Brookville Lake, Brookville/Liberty, lndiana
9/7/2023 to 9/14/2023
Our campground in the Mounds State Recreation Area is part of a very large state park - Brookville Lake & Whitewater Memorial State Park. We're east of, and equidistant from Indianapolis and Louisville, Kentucky. So far, Indiana is pretty flat with lots of corn. And not many mosquitos. It feels like fall - needing heavy blankets out by the fire in the mornings, and even red leaves among the ones starting to fall. We pretty much missed summer, which is apparently a good thing this year.
Scott spent a lot of time communicating with Rick, the RoVing Tech, and learning about the electrical system relating to the batteries. They eventually concluded that everything is working now, with the addition of a new truck battery. If/when we have similar problems in the future, Scott will know how to deal with them. In this picture he is checking various electrical connections in the inverter system.
We got a new canopy. The old one was damaged beyond repair by wind when we were in Holland, MI. We are experimenting with adding walls for blocking the sun. Haven't needed the mosquito protection of the screen house since Cooper Falls, WI. Will probably use this canopy instead of the screen house, until I need it for basting a quilt or sewing. The screen house is hard to put up and take down (unless Maudie is around to help).
We had the luxury of a full hookup at this site, so I was able to use our washer for laundry. I did take advantage of a washer/dryer available at the camp store for washing sheets and larger items.
There are two towns close by. Brookville (population 2500) had a nice IGA grocery store. Liberty (population 2000) had a local grocery store with a good selection, including Shiner Bock.
We ate out at a good Mexican Restaurant in Liberty (keeping up our Texas tradition in Indiana). We are realizing that while we had planned to eat out three times a week (once each for breakfast, lunch and dinner), we rarely eat out at all. We're too locked into our pleasant campsite routines.
