Taylorsville Lake State Park, Mt Eden, Kentucky
9/21/2023 to 9/28/2023
Taylorsville Lake State Park is a very small park, about 30 miles east of Louisville - about the same distance as our last park in Indiana, but from a different direction. We ended up going back to Louisville to get new camping chairs, after the seat on Scott's ripped out. As usual for the school season, the park was full on the weekend and pretty empty during the week. Here is a picture of our camping loop during the week.
We had a frequent visitor to our site. It looked like a skunk with a white strip down its head and back. One morning it was lingering at Annie's water bowl. I tried to get a picture, but it was dark and there was a delay in the camera and the animal was moving away, so it doesn't look like a skunk here. Maybe it wasn't, since there was no skunk smell after any of the visits.
We enjoyed paddle boarding the lake. We saw lots of blue herons and a few snow egrets. It was the only place we saw much wildlife - except for a few deer, wild turkeys and, of course the skunk (or whatever it was). The lake seems to be a favorite fishing area for lots of people. There was a tournament going on the day we paddle boarded. Most people staying at the park have either boats or horses.
There were a lot of trails on the map for this park, but most didn't actually appear to be navigable. After we got lost a couple of times, we hiked sections of the Possum Ridge Trail the rest of the week. It went all around the park, and was the main horse trail. Scott had to steer Annie away from partaking in the horse droppings. I'm including this picture from the trail for Maudie. She enjoys the backwoodsy flavor of the parks.
Scott spent a lot of time on the RV roof working on the front air conditioner. We declared it working, but it wasn't tested much because we had mild weather. Time will tell. I spent time finally finishing the quilt for the RV I've been working on. My machine had been skipping stitches, but Scott helped me get it level and I didn't have any more problems. We squared it up outside on the mats.
This site had a nice laundry area. It also had the nicest bathroom/shower of any park we've visited so far - clean, no bugs, hot water that stayed on until you turned it off.
