Barren River Lake State Resort Park, Lucas, Kentucky

 10/5/2023 to 10/12/2023

Barren River Lake State Resort Park is our first "resort" state park. It did have a lot of features, like a lodge, restaurant, golf course, marina, stables. None of those places were particularly busy. The campground was pretty full the whole time we were here. Our site was stuck right in the middle of a row of RVs. But it was a pull through site and had a full hook-up and a view of the woods in front, so pretty good.

Highlight of our week was a visit from my sister Kate. She flew into Nashville and got a rental car. She arrived the day we arrived and left the day we left. The first night she did a face plant getting out of the cab bed in the middle of the night.  Lucky nothing was broken, but sort of messed up her face.

We had one paddleboard/kayaking adventure. It was pretty chilly, but fun.

We saw several blue herons on the lake. We thought we might be seeing a big pelican or something, but when we got close we could tell it wasn't a bird. It was probably the underside of a fallen tree.

Scott found Austin, another mobile RV repair person, this time for our hot water heater that started leaking heavily. We thought we had the needed part but it turned out to be for the original water heater, not the one we have now. We actually needed 4 different parts that were discovered one by one. It took over three days. Lucky for us Austin follows his travel nurse wife and hadn't built up a practice here yet, so he had plenty of time for us. And his prices were more than reasonable. He also knew how to take our problematic air conditioner apart to find a loose screw causing our noise problem. Fixing that appears to have fixed our problem.

Mornings were colder than they have been - in the low 40's. We definitely needed blankets by the fire in the mornings.

There was a nice hike in the woods that we took most days. Here is a picture of us at the start.

We watched a lot of baseball this week. Go Astros and Braves! Hoping for that match in the World Series, but the Rangers might get in the way.

  1. Peggy. Betty has wanted to tell you about the National Quilt Museum in Paducah. We visited recently on our way home from camping at Mammoth Cave. It is truly amazing and worth a visit.
