Columbus Belmont State Park Campground, Columbus, Kentucky

 10/19/2023 to 10/25/2023

We traded a beautiful sunrise at our last campsite for an absolutely gorgeous sunset at this campsite. This was our view playing cards each afternoon/evening.

We also traded a postage stamp size site for an enormous site with a distant view of the Mississippi River.

We got to participate in what is an annual community event here at the park - celebration of Halloween on Oct 21. The small park was jammed full - not just all of the 38 campsites but loads of extra cars coming just for Halloween. Most sites were decorated and we had more than 100 young costumed trick or treaters.

The park has lots of Civil War History. As you walk through you see cannons, a huge anchor and chain that was spread across the Mississippi during the war, lots of signs detailing what happened in this area. There's even a cemetery with graves of soldiers who fought in the war.

There was a nice trail through the massive earthen works that formed Confederate trenches during the Civil War. Here's a plaque explaining them and a picture of the beginning of the trail.

Many of the fun attractions of the park are closed from October through April, so we missed the snack bar, gift shop, miniature golf, and museum. We also didn't try to paddle the river. Seemed like it could be easy to go too far and be difficult to get back.
