Fort Pillow SP, TN / Austin Trip

 10/25/2023 to 11/3/2023

We had a fun filled visit with the Coburns (Katie, Chad, Parker, Ryan, and John) this past  week. We celebrated John's 10th birthday with a Lake Travis Zipline Adventure. Our tour included 5 ziplines, with the last one greater than 1/2 mile.  Here are two pictures of our group - one sedate and one facing an imaginary danger.

Halloween was also great fun. We were very impressed with the boys' costume creativity.

Parker and his friends were all Scooby-Doo characters:

Ryan was a NERD.  The effect was striking:

John was an injured Construction Worker complete with a bloody stake through his heart:

Scott and I wore Walgreen's masks and were surprised that we actually scared some of the little kids as we gave out candy:

We left the RV at Fort Pillow State Park in Tennessee. This was our first experience leaving the RV unattended while we went on a plane trip. We had a great time and things worked out as planned, but the logistics of travel were complicated and stressful:
  • finding a place to board Annie (which turned out to be an hour in the opposite direction from the airport)
  • dealing with RV electric outlets not working  (which we left not working)
  • preparing for freezing weather (by winterizing the RV before leaving)
  • worrying about what was happening while we were gone
We didn't have any time to explore Fort Pillow until we got back to the park the day before we left. But that final afternoon we toured the very impressive museum and took the 2.5 mile loop trail between the museum and the reconstructed fort. There is quite a bit of Union and Condererate Civil War history here. Very interesting.
