North Basin RV Park on DeGray Lake, 2nd stay, Arkadelphia, Arkansas

 10-10-2024 to 10-24-2024

Good news. Bad news.

We got bad news when we unhooked our tow vehicle, the Honda CRV. We heard a loud thumping noise that sounded to us like major trouble. Here we were, 20 minutes from Arkadelphia, with no one to give us recommendations about who to call.

Using Google, we called Chad's Auto Repair on Thursday afternoon. Chad came out on Friday morning and determined that he needed to have our vehicle towed to his shop for him to work on it.

The good news. Chad personally brought the CRV back to our campsite in good working order late Saturday. The problem had to do with the cooling system. He had to order a water pump and thermostat and new coolant. He also changed the oil. The last place we got maintenance done couldn't change the oil -- said the bolts were too tight for them to get off.

I asked Chad for a picture for me to include in the blog:

On Wednesday, Oct 16th, I took a pretty hard fall. I was walking too fast and wearing loose slip on shoes.  Nothing broken, but I may be dealing with a sore left wrist for a while. I will be getting a lot of practice doing things with one hand. I learned how to use a T shirt as a sling. I also bought a bosu ball to do the balance exercises my last physical therapist taught me.

The extensive trail system here on Iron Mountain is great. The trails are especially for mountain bikers. We had some competition from bikers, but not too much. We took a different hike each day.

We also walked around our campsite every day. The brisk fall weather was wonderful.

We drove over to DeGray Lake State Park Resort, which is on the other side of DeGray Lake from where our campground is.  We were hoping to find lots of great hikes there.  We took one which was nice but very short, even for us.  They have a nice three mile paddle trail on the lake, which looked like fun. But the weather here turned cold and windy, so we decided not to do it.

Scott asked me to put in a picture of the little blue heron that lives around the little cove by our campsite. We heard it squawking and saw it flying every day. It's not nearly as impressive as the large blue heron that Sam Parker saw on Roosevelt Island.  We've only seen one that big in all of our sightings.

And...... I finally finished and mailed John's quilt!
