Taylorsville Lake State Park, Mt Eden, Kentucky

Image
9/21/2023 to 9/28/2023         Taylorsville Lake State Park is a very small park, about 30 miles east of Louisville - about the same distance as our last park in Indiana, but from a different direction. We ended up going back to Louisville to get new camping chairs, after the seat on Scott's ripped out.  As usual for the school season, the park was full on the weekend and pretty empty during the week. Here is a picture of our camping loop during the week.           We had a frequent visitor to our site. It looked like a skunk with a white strip down its head and back. One morning it was lingering at Annie's water bowl. I tried to get a picture, but it was dark and there was a delay in the camera and the animal was moving away, so it doesn't look like a skunk here. Maybe it wasn't, since there was no skunk smell after any of the visits.           We enjoyed paddle boarding the lake. We saw lot...

Charlestown State Park, Indiana

9/14/2023 to 9/21/2023          Charlestown State Park was our 4th and last site in Indiana. It had multiple camping loops and, as usual, was jam packed on the weekend and pretty deserted during the week. It seemed to be a popular destination for camping clubs, with lots of different groups camped closed together sharing meals and campfires. It's the first time we have seen so much of that. Might be because the park is relatively close to lots of big cities, like Louisville and Cincinnati, where organized camping clubs are popular.  Everyone was friendly and stopped to talk to us about Texas.            The park covers a wide area and we drove relatively long distances to get to all the trails, which we really enjoyed. We hiked a different one every day.  From one trail we could see the Ohio River from the cliffs above.           The trails were mostly labeled "rugged", but that jus...

Mounds SRA, Brookville Lake, Brookville/Liberty, lndiana

9/7/2023 to 9/14/2023          Our campground in the Mounds State Recreation Area is part of a very large state park - Brookville Lake & Whitewater Memorial State Park. We're east of, and equidistant from Indianapolis and Louisville, Kentucky. So far, Indiana is pretty flat with lots of corn. And not many mosquitos. It feels like fall - needing heavy blankets out by the fire in the mornings, and even red leaves among the ones starting to fall. We pretty much missed summer, which is apparently a good thing this year.            Scott spent a lot of time communicating with Rick, the RoVing Tech, and learning about the electrical system relating to the batteries. They eventually concluded that everything is working now, with the addition of a new truck battery. If/when we have similar problems in the future, Scott will know how to deal with them. In this picture he is checking various electrical connections in the invert...

Lake Mississinewa, Peru, Indiana

8/31/2023 - 9/7/2023          After a summer with all campsites full all week, we're back to the school schedule with full weekends and holidays and deserted weekdays.  I wish I had taken a picture of the cramped campground to contrast, but here is a picture of our site after everyone left Monday afternoon.           The Mississinewa Lake is definitely the prime attraction for campers here. Scott paddleboarded after the crowd thinned out. This is a picture of the launchsite.           We enjoyed hikes every afternoon as usual. Our favorite was the Lost Sister Trail in neighboring Frances Slocum State Recreation Area.           I did a lot of quilting this week, after giving up on standing up to quilt the short king for the RV. It was much easier (actually it was possible instead of impossible) to quilt sitting down, where I could raise the pressor foot above thic...
